I hope you Enjoy the Landscape images from Around my Local Area and from Farther Afield

Welcome to Michael's collection of images from his photographic ramblings in the countryside of northern England, Scotland and Wales.
Michael's affinity with exploring the countryside started at a very young age, which was enriched by the discovery of Romany of the BBC, aka George Bramwell Evans. GBE wrote vividly of his explorations in the countryside and of the many wild animals he encountered, describing their features and habits.
My love of photography started when buying my first 35mm camera aged twenty. I quickly combined my love of photography with my explorations in the countryside, making many mistakes and honing the skills I have used ever since along the way.
The landscape of the Yorkshire Dales in particular are my first love and local playground. The Dales have been shaped by geography, weather and human activity to provide a unique landscape. It is my aim to capture the grandeur and many faces of The Dales so that I may share my appreciation with all of you.
I will always be exploring my local area, ready to capture that special image, which is something we can all do, so please join me in rambling around your local area, you never know what you might find!
My summer project is to create a collection of high key big sky images, which capture the light of a fine summers day.
Summer isn't a photographers favourite time of year but by using the light to ones advantage, it is possible to create fine interesting images.
Inspired by Simon Baxter, I have started a new project photographing my local woodlands.
The image opposite was taken in the ancient woodland that skirts the River Twiss in the Yorkshire Dales, and shows twisted old Oak branches reaching out to the new verdant leaves of Birch trees.
You can see how my new project is coming along by visiting the Woodland page either by clicking the image opposite, the title, or via the Gallery page.

The gallery is a selection of photographs from my ramblings in the countryside, predominantly from my local area.
I just happen to live on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with only a 40 minute drive to the Lake District NP, so the Lakes might not be walking distance, but they're definitely local!

I’m often asked about the camera gear I use to make photographs, so I've put together a list for you.
The equipment I use is my choice, but any camera, including the one on your mobile phone, is good enough to capture a nice image, so please don't think you need a high spec camera.
